Getting started in brand licensing

Brands are your most valuable asset and brand licensing can be complicated.

Our process starts with an initial consultation with you and a lot of homework on our own. If, after our initial research, we determine that licensing will be a valuable tool for your brand, we will tell you. If it’s not likely to work for you, we’ll tell you that, too.

Step 1: Program Development and Planning

Through a series of strategy meetings, brainstorming sessions and carefully targeted focus groups, LMCA’s expert team will develop a results-oriented approach for extending your brand via brand licensing. We collaborate with dozens of creative thinkers as we go to work for you. By using the most innovative ideation techniques, including an exclusive arrangement with members of Mensa, the High IQ Society, we generate a broad spectrum of possibilities — ideas that can take your brand to new and unexpected places.

Step 2: Program Implementation

During this phase, we identify targeted licensees for your brand, based not just on available products, but also on the integrity of the licensee. We care as much about protecting your brand as you do, so we only work with well-established, top-tier companies.

Next, we negotiate a match between you and a licensee. We continue to manage that relationship as the program proceeds, providing complete coordination services, quality control, screening and product presentation for your approval.

Step 3: Program Coordination, Brand Building & Program Management

Throughout this final phase, LMCA continues to oversee the process, making any necessary adjustments along the way. To bolster your success, we identify and act on potential improvements and keep our eyes open for key marketing opportunities.

We establish a board of participating licensees for your program who will meet regularly to review overall progress. In these meetings, we may structure mutually beneficial tie-ins and other cross-promotions, or discuss strategies and new approaches.

When a licensing program enters international markets where the brand is lesser known, co-operative marketing programs are set up and managed by LMCA to encourage, and facilitate multiple international licensee partners work closely with each other on a collective brand building program, and to ensure consistent brand image, brand positioning throughout the licensee family.

Finally, our business affairs team will handle the contractual end of things, collecting and disseminating all royalty reports and payments.
